“I was so excited, but it all went by in such a blur that I hardly remember half of it!”
I’ve shot nearly 200 weddings. This is one of the most common things I hear from couples after their big day. The weeks, months and sometimes years leading up to a wedding are filled with thousands of details and countless hours of planning. It’s one of the most important days of their lives, yet once all the details come together and it’s actually happening, much of it will be missed in the whirlwind of activity that inevitably occurs during the wedding celebration.
I got married myself in the fall of 2008, and I know how much creativity, time and sentiment go into planning a wedding. After the vows are made and the music is played, the memories will be what last. Before we got engaged, my wife said she never would have even considered hiring a videographer. She thought of big cameras, bright lights and obnoxious producers getting in the way of the guests. Now, after seeing me in action and the quality product I deliver, the wedding video was at the top of her list.
A professional wedding video should be considered more of a necessity than a luxury. Video preserves the day like nothing else, allowing you to relive the sights, sounds, colors and unexpected moments forever - from the groom’s voice cracking during the vows, to the kids running in circles on the dance floor, to the tears welling up in Mom’s eyes as the newlyweds depart from the reception. All these things can be captured by an inconspicuous videographer, allowing events to unfold naturally as they happen, and not forcing the couple or guests to feel they have to perform while a camera is on them.
We can put together any kind of wedding video you can imagine, from the very basic to the very elaborate. Years of experience, unlimited creativity and professional equipment allow us to truly give each couple exactly what they want, and to share it over and over again with friends and family.
Our optional package features include:
"Memory Lane" - I collect photos of the bride and groom from birth through adulthood, add a small touch of motion to them and place songs of their choice underneath. This is a wonderful video to show family and friends during the rehearsal dinner. Many couples also have this playing on a loop on a small TV outside the reception area for guests to watch at their leisure.
"Wedding Story" – Very simply, I sit down with the bride and groom and get their individual accounts of the way they met, the proposal, the wedding planning, etc. It’s a casual conversation with the camera placed out of the way, to make it as natural and comfortable as possible. This makes the perfect beginning or end to your wedding video.
"Bridal Portraits" – This is a wonderful addition that consists of taking video footage of your bridal photography session. I just shadow the photographer, staying well out of the way, and get coverage of the shoot to put together later with music. Watch my full example with Kelly here on this site!
"Rehearsal" – You always have the option of having your rehearsal and/or rehearsal dinner taped. The rehearsal is usually very laid back and full of laughs, while at the same time very important to the following day’s coordination. Lots of unexpected moments can occur the evening before a wedding! Likewise, the rehearsal dinner is traditionally where the couple gives out wedding party gifts. They also receive a number of toasts and well-wishes in a much more intimate setting than the reception. Capture these candid moments to savor in the future.
"Guest Comments" - A popular choice for newlyweds, I simply set up a camera and microphone outside the reception area and have the DJ or bandleader make an announcement. Those guests that are interested can come out and have an open mic to leave their personal advice, stories, good luck wishes, etc. This can attract four people or it can attract forty, depending on the personalities of the guests, but it’s always entertaining!
"Highlight" – I’ll put together a five-to-ten minute clip to showcase the best moments of the evening. Then I’ll encode it and place it on my web server so you can access it anytime, or send it to family and friends that weren’t able to make it to the wedding itself.
Whatever you have in mind for your wedding video, we can make it happen. We are dedicated to providing you with nothing less than the best, and you will always receive a preliminary approval copy of the finished product to ensure your satisfaction. The first cut typically arrives between 4-6 weeks after the wedding day. You can then request any adjustments you might like, and I’ll do my best to accommodate them. Best of all, these changes will be made at no extra cost!
This also requires responsibility on the part of the couple, to make sure that I'm contacted after viewing that preview copy with the go-ahead to create the final DVDs to send out. I want your wedding video to be as personal for you as is possible, so feel free to offer as much input as you like.
My demo videos are located conveniently on this website. You may also request a DVD of the same footage to be sent in the mail. Just contact us with your information, and we’ll get one out to you immediately.
